-Merriam-Webster dictionary
Nickels commitment to stewardship has been part of the company fabric since our inception in 1979. Stewardship is not a marketing angle, not the latest “feel good” trend, it is not about buzz. Stewardship is about long-term commitment to core values, about being authentic, about doing what we say we’ll do, about being wise and discerning corporate citizens.
For Nickels, stewardship looks like this:
- Build cabinetry with high-quality components using CKCA certified construction standards, priced with fair value rather than maximum profit.
- Use materials that reduce indoor air pollutants ensuring a healthy home and workplace. This includes CARB II compliant materials for all our cabinetry, low VOC paints and stains, water-based adhesives, and the option of water-based conversion varnish topcoats.
- Provide a workplace that fosters long-term employee satisfaction by valuing and respecting the rich diversity of all our employees; by making safety equal to productivity; by sharing a portion of our profits with our employees; and by providing training and opportunities for a variety of jobs.
- Implement lean manufacturing systems to maximize material yield and minimize wasted material, time, effort, and space.
- Utilize recycled products whenever possible including material for our cabinetry, glass, plastic, aluminum accessories, and printed materials.
- Minimize the need for printed materials by providing a fully electronic online system for pricing and ordering, product information, installation instructions, warranty, cabinetry care, invoicing and a variety of other documents.
- Recycle all office paper, cardboard packaging materials, plastics, stain and paint solvents, paint drums, and waste wood.

why wood ?
Wood by nature is an environmentally friendly material. It is recyclable, biodegradable and uses less energy to process than metals and plastic. Wood is also a naturally renewable resource.
